Healthy on a Budget: 6 Things You Don’t Need to Spend Money On
If you feel like it is too freaking expensive to be healthy in this world, oh, I hear you and I feel you. These are common things that people spend money on in the health space that I don’t think you need to.
Organic food. Organic food still has pesticides in it. They’re less pesticides, but they still have pesticides. Conventionally grown food, which is inorganic food, has pesticides as well, but they are at a low level to the point that it’s safe for human consumption. That’s why they’re out on the market. Studies show that it’s not more nutritionally dense. It’s not more nutritious for you to eat organic foods. So go ahead, skip the organic and just buy conventional foods.
A fancy fitness tracking watch. You know your body best. If you sit there and you are looking at, oh my gosh, did I get enough sleep last night? You know who knows that? You do. You know if you didn’t get sleep last night. You know if you are feeling energetically like you can do a hard workout today. You have all the keys in your own body. We don’t have to have a fancy watch to tell us that. So save your money, my love.
A million supplements. This is not me telling you to go get supplements. Always check with your doctor. There’s just so much junk on the internet that doesn’t really have a lot of science behind it. If you start eating and moving your body and getting some sleep, you’re going to help your body and not need those supplements as much. We tend to kind of grab a supplement for everything and there are ways that we can support our bodies and love on our bodies that don’t require those.
A gym membership. I do all of my workouts from the comfort of my home. It is expensive. I went through so many gym memberships and I would do them for the first week or two and then the friction of having to go somewhere to work out was too much. I put my stuff upstairs so I could grab it real quick and do my workout while my kids were watching TV first thing in the morning. It is okay for your child to watch TV if you need to go work out for 20 minutes. It’s going to be fine.
Workout outfits. I work out in my PJs. I just do. You don’t need fancy workout outfits unless you want one. Have at it.
Fresh produce. You don’t have to spend money on fresh produce unless you are sure you’re going to eat it. I buy a ton of frozen veggies and fruits and canned veggies and beans. Just because it’s frozen or in a can does not mean that it’s bad for you. Frozen, canned, they are just as nutritionally dense, and canned beans are so cheap. You do not have to buy fresh produce in order to be healthy.
